Kenny Waste Management is a business which rigorously endeavours to help our local community. That is why, throughout November, we have been collecting a number of food items across our offices and site for the local Trussell Trust Foodbank in Farnworth.
This year has been a year like no other, and the economic strain has unfortunately resulted in an increased reliance on foodbanks in Greater Manchester. From the 1st of April to the 30th of September, the amount of foodbank parcels that the Trussell Trust distributed in Greater Manchester increased by 42% compared to the same period last year. With foodbank usage on the rise, we pledged to assist in making a difference to those who need it most.
Throughout November, our devoted staff have been donating food to help with our collection for the Trussell Trust Foodbank. As well as a range of food items, we have also donated a selection of advent calendars for some of the children in the local area.
We recently delivered the items to the Trussell Trust’s local warehouse in preparation for the increase in demand that foodbanks and providers will inevitably face at this time of year. Through this, we are hopeful that our goal of making Christmas easier for some families can be achieved.
In total, our brilliant employees have been able to donate a total of 500 items towards the collection, and Kenny Waste Management has pledged to more than match the amount that the staff were able to raise, in our commitment to help our local community. As a result, our final donation stands at over 1000 items! We are extremely proud to have been able to come together in these tougher times with such great enthusiasm to support the disadvantaged in our local area.
Our Technical Director, Paul Eagleton, donated towards the collection and he commented: ‘’Christmas can be a challenging time for many families. However, during the current global pandemic and the accompanying uncertainty that comes with this, these challenges can become even more apparent. It has been really uplifting to see the entire business come together to assist in helping to address these issues and I am proud that we have helped alleviate the strain for some disadvantaged local families this year.’’
Our efforts have also been recognised by the Trussell Trust who have outlined to us the dilemmas that they face during the Christmas period as well as the difficulties brought about as a result of the current pandemic.
Mark Whittington, the manager of the Farnworth Foodbank, commented: ‘’In the last 4 weeks, we have given out 1810 meals to 181 people, 86 of which were children.
‘’Foodbanks are at their busiest during December and with the COVID situation, we are expecting to support more people than ever.
“Donations are a huge help to us in assisting local individuals and families who find themselves in crisis situations and are unable to put food on the table.’’
Whilst we all strive to live in a community where foodbanks are no longer required, at Kenny Waste Management, we recognise the sensational work that they do throughout Greater Manchester. Therefore, we have welcomed the opportunity to be able to support them this Christmas.
With the full impacts of the Coronavirus Pandemic still not clear, it is possible that foodbank usage will increase further in the coming months. It is important that the sense of community spirit doesn’t fade
Kenny Waste Management will continue to look for ways in which we can contribute to our local area in future in the hope of helping maintain the Greater Manchester spirit.
