Join us in congratulating Kenny Waste Management team member Lauren Ball on achieving a highly-regarded transport qualification. Lauren joined us as our Safety, Health & Environmental and Transport Manager in 2017, and she’s been working with Accrington-based Specialist Training since March 2018 to gain her certificate.
Lauren’s new qualification is the International Freight Managers Certificate of Professional Competence. The certificate (often shortened to “CPC”) is offered on behalf of the Department for Transport and is a highly beneficial vocational qualification for managers like Lauren who work in road haulage transport.
Applicants for a Goods Vehicle Operator’s Licence must be able to demonstrate professional competence or employ a transport manager who meets the right requirements; and this certificate is an indicator of competence. As our Technical Director Paul Eagleton says, “Having a CPC holder in the company is a real asset for us.”
Although there is no legal obligation for Kenny Waste Management to have a CPC holder at the moment, it’s considered good practice for a company with a fleet the size of ours. Should we choose to expand our services in the future, it’s good to know that we have a CPC holder in place.
Lauren explains how the course and certification have helped her professional development:
From a day-to-day management benefit, it’s given me a better understanding of O-Licencing, vehicle maintenance, drivers’ hours, compliance record-keeping, scheduling and so on. I’m now also able to attend and lead DVSA inspections in place of the Directors.
At Kenny Waste Management, we encourage our team to work towards professional qualifications, and support them through their training. As well as enriching their roles and knowledge, it means that Kenny’s customers have the reassurance of working with competent professionals.
If you’d like to work for a company that genuinely values its colleagues and community, please get in touch. And congratulations again to Lauren for all her hard work and commitment!
