The National Recycling Awards are the most prestigious in the recycling and resource management sector and the winners are rightly recognised for their achievements within the industry. Kenny Waste Management is delighted to be the sponsor for the Social Value Initiative Award, this being very much at the forefront of our business culture.
As a family firm, Kenny Waste Management holds strong community values in the highest regard. Therefore, it gave us great pride to be given the opportunity to support an award that recognises a business that is bringing social benefit to its local community and wider society.
Having been delayed due to Covid and held virtually, the event was entirely positive and thoroughly enjoyable as many businesses were given accolades for their good work over the last 12 months. Comedian Tom Allen was also on hand to deliver some much-needed humour and laughs for the audience as he presented the awards.
In total, 10 businesses were shortlisted to be in contention for the Social Value Initiative Award with Giveacar’s Car Donation Scheme being crowned the winner. Giveacar is a not-for-profit social enterprise which has been enabling people to raise money for UK charities whilst disposing of their unwanted cars. They have worked with over 16,000 charities and handled the auction and disposal of over 35,000 vehicles. After arranging free collection, they either sell or scrap the car and send the proceeds to charity. Everyone at Kenny Waste Management congratulates Giveacar for winning the award and we are sure they will continue their good work in the future.
In 2018, we created our very own social enterprise ‘Driving Change’ with the aims of offering opportunity, structured support, and lots of encouragement to people that face increased barriers to employment. These groups include apprentices, ex-offenders, and the long term unemployed. Kenny Waste Management is committed to making a real difference in the local community and in 2019 we pledged to change 20 lives by 2020. Despite being faced with a global pandemic we were extremely pleased to have met this target. You can read more about this achievement here:-
Our Sales Director, Karen Hampton, announced the award and explained how crucial it is to recognise the good work going on within the waste sector. She commented that: ‘’it was a great honour to be given the opportunity to announce such a prestigious award. The last 12 months have been tough for everyone, so I was delighted to take part in an event which no doubt brought some much-needed cheer to many people. On a personal level, I am a huge advocate of Kenny Waste Management’s own social enterprise and the positive impact it is currently having. Therefore, the ability to give recognition to organisations bringing about positive change gave me immense pride. I would like to congratulate all of the award winners and I am looking forward to a very positive 2021.’’
We would like to thank the National Recycling Awards for giving us the opportunity to be a part of the event and we are sure the Waste Management industry will continue its effective working throughout the coming year.
